Features of Smart Grid Technologies: An Overview

Abstract: This paper presents an overview of smart grid (SG) technology features such as two-way communication, advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) system, integration of renewable energy, advanced storage techniques, real time operation and control, data management and processing, physical and cyber security, and self-healing, etc. The SG technology allows twoway communications for better reliability, control, efficiency and economics of the power system. With these new SG technologies, consumers have many energy ch… Show more

“…A smart grid is an electrical network that allows bi-directional flow of electricity and information exchange between suppliers and consumers [1]. This system has potential to increase power system reliability, reduce network losses, and encourage consumers' participation in energy management [2]. Smart grid technology facilitates the consumers to analyze their electricity utilization information in real time, this enables them to manage electricity bills by scheduling consumption to off-peak hours [3].…”

“…Cooperative control of multi‐agent systems (MASs) has become a hot issue in both academic community and industrial circles due to its broad and promoting applications in a variety of fields, covering cyber‐physical system [1], exploration [2], distributed sensor networks [3], surveillance [4], smart grid [5], and unmanned aerial vehicles [6]. Cooperative control of MASs emphasises the design of control protocols with only local interaction to achieve collective behaviours [79].…”
