“…Among these methods, the photocatalytic reduction, usually in the presence of NaBH 4 , converting 4-NP to 4-aminophenol (4-AP) with less toxicity, worse chemical stability, and biodegradability, has been considered the most efficient and promising approach for removing 4-NP. 13,14 Three primary reasons account for its superiority: (1) it is simple and occurs under mild conditions, usually at room temperature; (2) the conversion from 4-NP to 4-AP is effective and complete without the existence of byproducts; (3) the commercial value of 4-AP should be noticeable since it is an important and widely used raw material for the synthesis of medicine, polymer material stabilizer, photographic developer, petroleum additive, etc. 15−19 As a result, the photocatalytic reduction method converting 4-NP to 4-AP is promising and is worth indepth study.…”

“…Nitrophenols, a class of aromatic compounds with nitro and phenolic hydroxyl groups, are important raw materials for explosives, dyes, herbicides, medicine industries, etc. Among these compounds, 4-nitrophenol (4-NP), is a primary intermediate of fine chemicals produced in herbicides, medicine, and dyes industries. However, 4-NP can be easily enriched in organisms owing to its good water solubility if it is uncontrollably discharged, thereby resulting in allergy, carcinogenicity, and threatening respiratory, reproductive, and nervous systems of humans due to its toxicity and chemical stability. Therefore, appropriate treatment and efficient removal of residue 4-NP in environmental waters is an urgent research topic that has attracted global attention.…”
