Abstract:The femtosecond laser has added a new dimension to cataract surgery in terms of precision, reproducibility, safety, and patient satisfaction. With this technology, capsulotomies are performed with unprecedented accuracy while lens fragmentation requires less ultrasound energy than during a conventional phacoemulsification. In an ever-increasing number of cases, no phaco energy at all is required which enhances the patient's safety, particularly with regard to the corneal endothelium.
