Ferrous cellulose thiocarbonate‐persulphate redox system induced graft polymerization of methacrylic acid onto cotton fabric

Abstract: Graft polymerization of methacrylic acid onto cotton using ferrous cellulose thiocarbonate-persulphate redox system was investigated under a variety of conditions. The graft yield was significantly favoured in acidic media as well as by increasing persulphate concentration, methacrylic acid concentration and reaction time. Further, the graft yield obtained by applying of conventional padding methods in the synthesis of the copolymers was investigated. “…Graft copolymers were synthesized by irradiating original cellulose and hydroxyethyl cellulose, both in film-form, in presence of styrene and were analyzed by UV and IR spectroscopy [11]. Bayazeed et al [12] investigated the graft copolymerisation of methacrylic acid (MAA) onto cotton using thiocarbonate persulphate redox system under a variety of conditions. The graft yield was significantly favored in acidic media as well as by increasing reaction time, persulphate and MAA concentration.…”
