Few Layer Graphene Derived from Wet Ball Milling of Expanded Graphite and Few Layer Graphene Based Polymer Composite

Abstract: Few layer graphene (FLG) was synthesis by simple wet ball milling of expanded graphite and graphene based polymer composites were developed with different content of FLG. Initially, mixture of expanded graphite and dimethyl formamide in different weight ratio was milled in planetary ball milling for 8-10 h. The ball milled material was dried and it was characterized by various spectroscopic techniques. Raman spectroscopy study reveals that concentration of expanded graphite in organic solvent up to 13 mg/ml wi… Show more

“…[23][24][25][26] The ball milling method has characteristics such as simple preparation process, energy saving and environmental benign for massively production. 27 The ECG was further grafted with the oleophilic oleylamine molecule to prepare edge-oleyaminated graphene (EOG). Oleylamine is selected as functional group for its thermal stability and miscibility with various oils.…”

“…Ball milling has been in use for mixing and particle size reduction for a long time. Scientists have used this particle size reduction approach to exfoliate graphene sheets from graphite, sometimes using magnetic assistance [65] and sometimes using chemical [66,67] or solvent assistance [68]. Magnetic assistance provides filtration of metallic particles present in the precursors, while chemical assistance prevents the sheets from re-stacking using chemical interactions, such as π-π [66].…”
