Field Independence and the Firo-B

Abstract: The Group Embedded Figures Test and the FIRO-B were administered to 100 Canadian undergraduates in business administration. One FIRO-B measure of wanted affection correlated significantly but only .20 with scores on the Group Embedded Figures Test.

“…One disadvantage to this method is that the cross-peak and diagonal peak intensities need to be measurable. Errors in these measurements are propagated into the rate calculations . Another disadvantage is that several mixing times must be used, leading to the need for large amounts of instrument time .…”

“…33 NOE build-up curves were constructed using the PANIC approach. 34,35 In the 1D DPFGSE 1 H, 1 H-T-ROESY spectra, each NOE enhancement was normalized with respect to the target signal in the same spectrum. In 2D 1 H, 13 C-HSQC-NOESY spectra, each NOE cross-peak intensity was normalized with respect to the average intensity of the two diagonal signals (intramolecular Man 3 NOEs) or the Man 3 diagonal signal intensity (intermolecular NOEs) in the same spectrum.…”

“…The manual of the test (Schutz, 1988) reports numerous concurrent validity studies, but relatively few construct validity studies. Various reviewers have sought to discover the concurrent validity or overlap between the FIRO‐B and other measures like field dependence (McRae & Young, 1990), adaptive‐innovative cognitive style (Tullett & Davies, 1999) and team role preferences (Fisher, Macrosson, & Semple, 2001). However, this research effort has been piecemeal and non‐systematic.…”
