Film Cooling Effectiveness for Injection from Multirow Holes

Abstract: Experimental results are presented for film cooling effectiveness with injection from both a single row and multiple rows of holes with spanwise hole-to-hole spacings of three hole diameters. In the multi-row cases, the injection holes were arranged in staggered patterns with streamwise row-to-row spacings of five or ten hole diameters. Adiabatic wall temperature distributions near and downstream of injection holes were well visualized using a scanning infrared camera. The effect of mainstream pressure gradien… Show more

“…Sellers [1] brought forward a superposition calculation method ignoring the interference between rows of film cooling holes, but it is only suitable for two-dimensional film cooling gaps. Sasaki et al [2] validated the method experimentally. The results show that the calculated value is lower in most cases, but that the deviations are acceptable.…”

“…Generally, these studies focused on the effects of geometric factors and aerothermic factors on the performance of film cooling. Geometric factors involve injection angle [5], arrangement of holes (inline or staggered) [6], hole exit shape [2], inter-holes distance and inter-rows distance [7]. Aerothermic factors consist of blowing ratio [8], turbulence level Tu [9], temperature ratio T j /T∞ [8], density ratio ρ j /ρ∞ [10].…”
