Finite amplitude elastic waves propagating in compressible solids

Abstract: The paper studies the interaction of a longitudinal wave with transverse waves in general isotropic and unconstrained hyperelastic materials, including the possibility of dissipation. The dissipative term chosen is similar to the classical stress tensor describing a Stokesian fluid and is commonly used in nonlinear acoustics. The aim of this research is to derive the corresponding general equations of motion, valid for any possible form of the strain energy function and to investigate the possibility of obtain… Show more

“…In the last twenty years, much attention has been devoted to classes of materials with specific constitutive relations, such as the neo-Hookean and Mooney-Rivlin hyperelastic materials. Exact solutions of various non-linear elasticity models for specific types of motions have been derived in a number of papers, including [15,36].…”

“…24 They also studied the interaction of a longitudinal wave with a transverse wave in viscoelastic materials. 25 Zabolotskaya et al developed an evolution equation for nonlinear shear waves in soft isotropic solids with viscous dissipation. 26 It should be noted that the nonlinear elastic and dissipative behavior of rocks has been recently observed in many experiments.…”
