Finite Difference Evaluation of Moisture Profile in Boxed-heart Large-cross-section Square Timber of Pinus densiflora during High Temperature Drying

Abstract: Predicting the amount and distribution of moisture content within wood allows calculating the various mechanical dynamics of the wood as well as determining the drying time. For boxed-heart wood with a large cross-section, since it is difficult to measure the moisture content of the interior, it is necessary to predict the moisture content distribution. This study predicted the moisture movement in boxed-heart red pine timber, during high temperature drying, by using the three-dimensional finite difference met… Show more

“…The heat transfer through the gypsum board can be simulated using the finite difference method (Fig. 1) (Zhou et al 2011;Kim et al 2017;Hesthaven 2018;Khouya 2020). The temperature outside the gypsum board where the fire occurred followed the standard fire curve ISO 834-1 (1999)).…”

“…In recent years, some works have focused specifically on the numerical approximations. For instance, Kim et al [12] introduced a 3D finite difference approximation to high temperature drying. The authors discussed the discretization strategy and presented all coefficients of the algebraic equations.…”
