Finite Nuclei in the Quark-Meson Coupling Model

Abstract: International audienceWe report the first use of the effective quark-meson coupling (QMC) energy density functional (EDF), derived from a quark model of hadron structure, to study a broad range of ground state properties of even-even nuclei across the periodic table in the nonrelativistic Hartree-Fock þ BCS framework. The novelty of the QMC model is that the nuclear medium effects are treated through modification of the internal structure of the nucleon. The density dependence is microscopically derived and th… Show more

“…These results illustrate a rather dramatic change from a significant underbinding, yielded by the mean field model with the Skyrme SVmin parameter set [23] and, to a lesser extent, predicted by QMC-without-pion model in the Z=100 -104 region [5], to a slight overbinding with the present QMCπ, microcroscopic-macroscopic models Finite-Range-Droplet-Model (FRDM) [18] and of Muntian et al (MM) [20,21]. It is interesting to observe that the inclusion of pion-exchange in the QMC model has a significant effect on the ground state binding energies.…”

“…For instance, reactions with the Gogny interaction have recently been performed [110]. The use of effective interactions from the quark-meson coupling model has also shown promising results in static HF calculations of nuclear structure [111] and could be implemented in TDHF codes.…”
