Firm-specific advantages: a comprehensive review with a focus on emerging markets

“…The rationale for this theorization is twofold. First, the unique institutional environments in emerging markets account for EMFs' idiosyncrasy (Madhok & Keyhani, 2012), and EMFs depend on their home countries to develop firm advantages (Adarkwah & Malonaes, 2022). Thus, it is essential to examine the national institutional conditions and firm resource conditions in emerging markets when studying EMFs' cross-border M&As (Degbey et al, 2021).…”

“…Hence, financial, economic and size factors at the firm or national level urge the development of individual-level and leadership multiculturalism. Institutional forces enter, as well with norms, regulations and patterns promoting multicultural experiences (Maddux et al , 2020) — such as studying or living abroad (Maddux and Galinsky, 2009) — and in practices ranging from subtitles rather than dubbing of international entertainment shows (Almeida and Costa, 2014) to listing on outside stock exchanges (Adarkwah and Malonæs, 2020; Temouri et al , 2016) to having many inflows from “outside” groups (Ng and Metz, 2015). Additionally, when countries are not island nations but are literally and figuratively at geographic and economic crossroads of historic global trading routes, this type of positioning assists with promoting multiculturalism (Dickson, 1956).…”
