First Structurally Characterized Palladium(II)-Substituted Polyoxoanion:  [Cs2Na(H2O)10Pd3(α-SbIIIW9O33)2]9-

Abstract: The palladium-substituted tungstoantimonate(III) [Cs(2)Na(H(2)O)(10)Pd(3)(alpha-SbW(9)O(33))(2)](9-) (1) has been synthesized and characterized by IR, elemental analysis, and electrochemistry. Single-crystal X-ray analysis was carried out on Cs(3)KNa(5)[Cs(2)Na(H(2)O)(10)Pd(3)(SbW(9)O(33))(2)].16.5H(2)O, which crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P2(1)/m, with a = 13.3963(13) A, b = 19.5970(19) A, c = 18.1723(17) A, beta = 100.416(2) degrees, and Z = 2. Polyanion 1 represents the first structural… Show more

“…In addition this spectrum shows two wellseparated bands at higher energy (1089 and 1038 cm -1 ) attributed to the {P=O} vibrators. The splitting of the ν P-O stretching mode is comparable to the one observed in the free lacunary [α-PW 11 O 39 ] 7-anion (∆ν ≈ 45 cm -1 ), in agreement with the absence of interaction of Ru addenda atoms with the oxygen atoms of the {PO 4 } group. Cyclic voltammetry of Rb 9.5 K 0.5 -1 at pH = 3 in a sulfate buffer reveals the presence of a reduction wave at E 1/2 = -0.02 V and an oxidation wave at +0.65 V vs. SCE (Figure 4).…”

“…This chemical shift is, however, unusual for diamagnetic ruthenium-, and more generally for diamagnetic metallic-containing derivatives of the [PW 11 O 39 ] 7-anion. Nevertheless, it is noteworthy that a similar value(δ = +0.2 ppm) was observed for the signal arising from the phosphorus atoms closer to the Ru-O-Ru bridge in the related [{α 2 …”
