Fish-on-a-chip: a sensitive detection microfluidic system for alzheimer's disease

Abstract: Microfluidics has become an important tool in diagnosing many diseases, including neurological and genetic disorders. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease that irreversibly and progressively destroys memory, language ability, and thinking skills. Commonly, detection of AD is expensive and complex. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH)-based microfluidic chip platform is capable of diagnosing AD at an early stage and they are effective tools for the diagnosis with low cost, high speed, an… Show more

“…3 Moreover, the CMOS image sensor chip was modified into an impedance sensor, 4 and used for microarray generation to detect DNA-DNA hybridization and also for the detection of antigen-antibody (Ag-Ab) interactions. 5,6 Even though the Ag-Ab interaction has taken place on CMOS image sensor chips, the final interaction has been confirmed by other devices, such as SEM, atomic force microscopy (AFM) and luminescence or fluorescence-based detections. 7,8 Our group has tried to develop a simple and highly sensitive diagnostic method based on the CMOS image sensor for the detection of Ag-Ab interactions on indium nanoparticle (InNP) substrates.…”

“…Paraffin-embedded tissue slides require a pretreatment procedure before hybridization, and the samples are analyzed by fluorescence microscopy. Conventional FISH analysis is a time-consuming (takes 2 -3 days to complete), labor-intensive, and expensive (~$90 per slide 8 ) technique.…”
