Five New Cytotoxic Metabolites from the Marine Fungus Neosartorya pseudofischeri

Abstract: The marine fungus Neosartorya pseudofischeri was isolated from Acanthaster planci from the South China Sea. In a preliminary bioactivity screening, the crude methanol extract of the fungal mycelia showed significant inhibitory activity against the Sf9 cell line from the fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda. Five novel compounds, including 5-olefin phenylpyropene A (1), 13-dehydroxylpyripyropene A (4), deacetylsesquiterpene (7), 5-formyl-6-hydroxy-8-isopropyl-2- naphthoic acid (9) and 6,8-dihydroxy-3-((1E,3E)-pe… Show more

“…This compound was previously isolated from several types of organisms. Thereunder plants like Ailanthus malabarica and Hypodematiumsquamuloso-pilosum ( Joshi et al, 1977 ; Zhou et al, 1998 ), a fungus Neosartorya pseudofischeri ( Lan et al, 2016 ), a sponge Tedaniaignis ( Dillman and Cardellina, 1991 ), as well as several bacteria, e.g., Steptomyces and Pseudomonas spp. ( Proksa et al, 1990 ; Shin et al, 2010 ; Huang et al, 2011 ; Chen et al, 2013 ; Lee et al, 2013 ; Broberg et al, 2017 ).…”

“…The 1-Acetyl-3-carboxy-β-carboline has previously only been found in plants [ 15 , 17 ], and this is the first report on the production of this compound by a bacterium. Conversely, 1-acetyl-β-carboline has previously been isolated from several types of organisms, including plants [ 14 , 18 ], a fungus [ 19 ], a sponge [ 20 ], and several bacteria e.g., [ 21 ].…”

“…Trichodermamide and aspergillazines are two kind of modified dipeptides1525. Trichodermamide A has been found from a marine-derived T. virens 24, it is also be obtained from marine-derived fungi Spicaria elegans 25 and Neosartorya pseudofischeri 32 and endophytic fungus Trichoderma spirale 33. The yield of trichodermamide A produced by these fungi were 1.58 mg/L24, 0.73 mg/L25, 0.12 mg/L32 and 8.98 mg/L33 individually.…”
