Fixed‐frequency conical beam scanning antenna array with small ripple for Satcom‐on‐the‐Move system

Abstract: A conical beam antenna array with fixed‐frequency scanning capability is proposed. Twelve open waveguide radiating elements filled with microwave ferrite on a metal ground plane are evenly distributed around a circle to realize small gain ripple and the array is fed by a planar feeding structure to realize low profile. The fixed‐frequency beam scanning can be realized by varying the magnetic bias field applied perpendicularly to the width of the waveguide. The coupled lines with two shorts are utilized to real… Show more

“…Conical beam antennas have gained considerable interest in the areas of vehicular communications, 1 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), 2 guiding and tracking systems 3 due to their ability to offer a high azimuthal symmetry radiation pattern. 4,5 Various antennas with conical patterns have been developed in the past and can be classified into two broad classes, like planar and nonplanar antennas. 6,7 Compared with nonplanar antennas, planar patch antennas are more suitable for vehicular communication due to their low profile and simple structures.…”
