The utilization of solar energy to make human lives better has been one of the primary and green approaches adopted by ordinary people and researchers for decades. This approach has recently gained a lot of attention as a way to tackle clean water scarcity in remote areas. Costly components, complex manufacturing procedures with rarely available equipment, and a surface to condense water vapors are challenges in the way of its application in the required areas. Here, we propose a complete system to solve this problem with a handmade light absorber and a superhydrophilic surface (antifogging) to get vapors back to collect clean water. Our handmade flower-like light absorber stitched by crochet work, the single stitch method, was able to get a decent evaporation rate of 1.75 kg/m 2 ·h in pure water and slightly lower rates of 1.62 and 1.65 kg/m 2 ·h with brine and pond water, respectively. Still, our proposed superhydrophilic coated surface can collect ∼37% more water than the pristine surface. This system has a huge potential for use in rural areas because of multiple key advantages, such as simple technology, readily available low-cost raw materials, and easy fabrication.

A hierarchical structure similar to “lotus leaf surface” has attracted widespread attention due to its excellent hydrophobic properties. Herein, using low‐temperature sol–gel method prepared superhydrophobic SiO2 particles with biomimetic lotus leaf micro/nanoscale hierarchical structure (BRHS), which were formed in situ on the surface of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fiber, and endowing PET‐based composite filter media (P‐Filter) superhydrophobic property. After different TEOS@MTES@ KH550 (TMK) modification treatments, SiO2 particles were wrapped on the P‐Filter, and the microscopic pore structure was changed significantly. When the mass ratio of TEOS/MTES (TM) reached 4/2, KH550 modified SiO2 nanoparticles displayed the widest particle size distribution. In this case, the PET (TMK@PET‐4) fibers exhibited rough morphology of BRHS, the contact angle (WCA) reached 160.9 ± 2.8°, and the shedding angle (WSA) was 5.9 ± 2.5°, which reaching a superhydrophobic state. Also, the TMK@PET‐4 filter material demonstrated best comprehensive filtration performance for PM 0.3 (η: 99.12%, ΔP: 58 Pa, QF: 0.0816), 36.96% higher than the original PET filter, and had excellent mechanical stability and self‐cleaning properties. Therefore, the presented simple method has a guiding significance in producing superhydrophobic P‐Filter, a potential value for the research and development of bag‐type dust removal materials in high‐humidity environments.

“…One of the last works was carried out by Zhang et al [229] by fabricating a fire alarm sensor via electrospinning and vacuum-assisted filtering and constituted by SMPU and MXene, which is a new generation of 2D materials constituted by a few layers of metal carbides or nitrides, finding applications in electrocatalysis and photocatalysis [230]. They found that the recovery of the permanent shape can be triggered by electricity with a voltage of 5 V due to the Joule heat produced by the MXene coating or by heating above the T g of SMPU within 10 s. This review aims to point out the importance of the synergic effects of two relevant and appealing polymeric issues: electrospun fibers and shape-memory properties. The attention is focused specifically on the design and processing of electrospun polymeric fibers with shape-memory capabilities and their potential application fields. It is shown that this field needs to be explored more from both scientific and industrial points of view; however, very promising results have been obtained up to now in the biomedical field and also as sensors and actuators and in electronics.
