Flavouring Group Evaluation 203: alpha, beta‐Unsaturated aliphatic aldehydes and precursors from chemical subgroup 1.1.4 of FGE.19 with two or more conjugated double bonds and with or without additional non‐conjugated double bonds

Abstract: Based on the available data on carcinogenicity and genotoxicity there is a safety concern for hexa-2(trans),4(trans)-dienal .057] since a nonthreshold mechanism cannot be excluded. This conclusion also applies to the other substances of this FGE.Therefore, the substances of this FGE cannot be evaluated through the Procedure. The Panel requests data which clarify whether the carcinogenic effects were based on a thresholded mechanism.
