One significant biotic barrier to crop production is weeds. The present study aims to analyze the weed vegetation associated with cultivated crops in the newly reclaimed lands in the three Suez Canal governorates (Ismailia, Suez and Port-Said). A total of 148 weed species (96 annuals and 52 perennials) belonging to 110 genera and 26 families were recorded. The most species-rich families were Poaceae, Asteraceae, Amaranthaceae and Fabaceae. Therophytes and Chamaephytes were the most prevailing lifeforms. The chorological analysis of the vegetation revealed that Cosmopolitan, Saharo-Sindian and Mediterranean chorotypes either pure or extended into other regions form the major component of the floristic structure. The application of TWINSPAN classification technique yielded four vegetation groups. These groups were dominated by Schismus barbatus, Senecio glaucus, Cynodon dactylon and Melilotus indicus. Biodiversity indices (species richness, Shannon's index, Simpson's index and Evenness index) indicated that vegetation group B was the most diversified among other groups. The ordination of stands in the study area by using DECORANA program showed that the vegetation groups obtained by TWINSAPAN are distinguishable and have a clear-cut pattern of segregation on the ordination diagrams.Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA) indicated that soil texture, total nitrogen, calcium, magnesium, potassium, sulphates, electrical conductivity and organic matter were the main soil parameters which determined the distribution of weed vegetation in the study area.

Floristic Studies in Suez Canal Region with Seventeen New Records to the Area

The present study provides a detailed flora composition and soil attributes of Suez Canal region. This region was represented in Ismailia-PortSaïd highway, Ismailia city and Ismailia-Suez highway which wasn't surveyed before as a whole region. The species collection was preformed seasonally from 2020 till 2022. The investigated area comprised of a wide range of habitats namely, waste land, cultivated land, irrigated areas, desert land, salt marshes, edge of cultivation and canal bank. A total of 190 species were recorded in the study area. They include 24 sub-species and 14 varieties belonging to 127 genera and 39 families. The most species-rich families were represented by Poaceae (36 species), Amarnthaceae (26 species), Asteraceae (18 species), Brassicaceae (12 species) and Fabaceae (10 species). Therophytes were the most dominate life-form in the study area represented by 58.5 percent, followed by chamaephytes (20.5%), hemicryptophytes (7.8%), cryptophytes (7.89%), then phanerophytes (4.7%) and parasites 0.5%. This study revealed seventeen species as new records to the flora of the study area. Out of these six species are added as new records to the flora of the Mediterranean region, Eastern desert and Isthmic desert.

Sharkia Governorate was the subject of a floristic survey and phytogeographical investigation. In the 169 sectors, 124 species belonging to 80 genera and 29 families were recorded. Twenty five percent of the recorded family belonged to Poaceae (Gramineae). According to these findings, therophytes, which comprised 87 species and accounted for 70.61% of the recorded species, were the dominant life form. Additionally, chorology showed that the monoregional area, where these elements make up cosmopolitan species accounted for 31 species in total (25% of all species). In this investigation, 84 new species that had not been recorded before in the same area were illustrated.
