Fluorinated polyamides and poly(amide imide)s based on 1,4‐bis(4‐amino‐2‐trifluromethylphenoxy)benzene, aromatic dicarboxylic acids, and various monotrimellitimides and bistrimellitimides: Syntheses and properties

Abstract: A CF3‐containing diamine, 1,4‐bis(4‐amino‐2‐trifluromethylphenoxy) benzene (I), was prepared from hydroquinone and 2‐chloro‐5‐nitrobenzotrifluoride. Imide‐containing diacids (Va–h and VIa,b) were prepared through the condensation reaction of amino acids, aromatic diamines, and trimellitic anhydride. Then, a series of soluble fluorinated polyamides (VIIa–h) and poly(amide imide)s (VIIIa–h and Xa,b) were synthesized from I with various aromatic diacids (IIa–h) and imide‐containing diacids (Va–h and VIa,b) via di… Show more

“…The incorporation of fluorine substituents and bulky pendant groups into the polymers is considered as effective ways to obtain a low dielectric constant property. In recent years, the introduction of fluorine into the polyamide backbones has been intensively explored because of the unique characteristics of fluorine substituents . Fluorine incorporation has been found to generally decrease the dielectric constant and moisture absorption, to improve the optical properties, and also to increase the thermal stability.…”

“…Furthermore, the high moisture absorptions of aramids, compared with other polymer materials, have resulted in obvious negative effects on their mechanical properties, as well as electrical insulating and dielectric performance. 5 Therefore, various attempts have been made to enhance their solubilities and processabilities either by introducing flexible linkages, 6 bulky pendant groups 7 or fluorinated substituents 8 into the polymer backbones.…”
