Abstract

BACKGROUNDColorectal cancer (CRC) will affect 4.4% of men and women at some point in their lifetime. Approximately 20% of patients will present with distant metastatic disease. Current standard first-line systemic treatment for metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) includes chemotherapy with the addition of biologic agents (antiantiogenics, or anti-EGFR agents). Patients with distant metastatic disease that is deemed resectable can be treated with curative intent with a combination of surgery and systemic therapy. The likelihood of converting unresectable disease to resectable disease with systemic therapy is currently unknown.
