Fragaria 3ananassa, fruit breeding, cultivar, yield 'Fontanilla' is a short-day strawberry (Fragaria ·ananassa Duch.) cultivar remarkable for its fruit firmness, low proportion of secondclass fruit, and especially, very high fruit yield. Its early harvesting season is a key feature for commercial production on the southwestern coast of Spain and in similar temperate regions.Helped by favourable weather conditions, good-quality water and sandy soils, together with the incorporation of advanced technology, Huelva-located on the southwestern coast of Spain-has become Europe's leading producer of fresh-market strawberries.
