Food Intake Pattern and Cardiovascular Risk Factors in Patients with Premature Coronary Artery Disease in Iran

Abstract: Background: There is limited evidence regarding the risk factors and nutritional patterns in patients with premature coronary artery disease (PCAD). This study aims to investigate the relationship between different dietary patterns and risk factors in patients with PCAD. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on PCAD patients, including men younger than 55 years and women younger than 65 years, who underwent coronary angiography in the Angiography Department of the Shahid Mohamadi Hospital, Ba… Show more

“…SFA can enhance the production of LDL-C (31). The oxidized LDL-C particles are scavenged by macrophages around the heart which leads to atherosclerosis and CAD (9). Up to 60% of the fat content of dairy is SFA, mostly lauric acid and myristic acid acting as the processors of LDL-C and apolipoprotein B (32).…”

“…Accordingly, the term "premature coronary artery disease" (PCAD) has emerged with extensively variable de nitions such as the incidence of acute myocardial infarction (MI) or myocardial ischemia with an obstructive CAD (any stenosis ≥ 70% or left main stenosis ≥ 50%) in women and men younger than 70 and 60 years (8); however, the age range was different from 40 to 70 years old (9). Therefore, the early diagnosis of PCAD provides an opportunity to perform preventive strategies that can potentially impede the risk of exacerbation and development of major adverse cardiac events.…”
