Foresight on oilseed competitiveness: Exploring collectively the possible “futures”

Abstract: Summary :The objective of foresight (future studies) is to enlighten decision-makers, by exploring collectively the sphere of possible "futures" and bringing out different scenarios for the future. CETIOM has carried out such an approach in order to assess oilseed (rapeseed and sunflower) competitiveness in France and Europe, taking into account the European and worldwide context by 2010-2015. The competition between domestic oilseeds and other sources of fats takes place at all levels of production, transform… Show more

“…The global population will grow by 25% and reach 10 billion over the next 30 years, and high-yielding, more nutritious, pest and disease resistant, and climate-smart new crops need to develop [21]. A study on oilseed crops' competitiveness highlighted seven strategic topics and pointed out the key research fields of oilseed genetic improvement: nutritional balance related to oil quality, meal quality for animal feeding, production systems, environmental challenges, and non-food uses from vegetable oils [22]. Primarily, sesame breeds should be selected for increased yield, increased oil content, uniformity, and biotic and abiotic stress resistance.…”
