Foreword to the Special Issue: “Semantics for Big Data Integration”

Abstract: In recent years, a great deal of interest has been shown toward big data. Much of the work on big data has focused on volume and velocity in order to consider dataset size. Indeed, the problems of variety, velocity, and veracity are equally important in dealing with the heterogeneity, diversity, and complexity of data, where semantic technologies can be explored to deal with these issues. This Special Issue aims at discussing emerging approaches from academic and industrial stakeholders for disseminating innov… Show more

“…However, the authors of the present review included those papers because the contents of the studies fulfilled the objective of the current study. Furthermore, business intelligence and data analytics are related to big data, both of them contributing to the decision-making process in organizations by taking advantage of big data [14,15]. In this light, Santoro et al [70] believed that big data is compatible with the business intelligence techniques that are needed to provide intelligent assistance for organizational processes.…”

“…However, database researchers were anxious about how to combine different heterogeneous data sources by providing a standard query interface. Indeed, semantics integration offers many promising opportunities and harnesses the power of semantic knowledge bases (Beneventano and Vincini, 2019). It reduces comparatively the sources heterogeneity, offers data consistency, and warrants reliable interoperability among various systems (Abbes and Gargouri, 2018).…”

“…Analytics of big data consists of three crucial elements: Data itself, analytics used to the presentation and the data of results to generate business worth for companies as well as their buyers. Big data analytics is a growing field that is helping companies make informed choices about their services and products, as well as the increase of digitalization 3 . Some companies, even the ones that haven't yet adopted business intelligence, haven't invested in huge data analytics despite the fact that it is able to provide significant benefits.…”
