Formative Evaluation of a Hepatitis C Virus Computer Assisted Instruction Tool or Communities of African Descent

Abstract: Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) has become increasingly prevalent within traditionally undeserved communities. The paper describes the formative evaluation of a HCV Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) tool. “…A specific telehealth strategy, computer assisted instruction (CAI), has been used to disseminate information regarding several health issues including substance abuse, hepatitis C, and prostate cancer (Orlandi et al 1990;Schinke et al 1990;Weston et al 2005). Additionally, the inclusion of elements that highlight a shared identity has been recognized as an important factor in observer receptiveness to the message (Cross 1991;Michinov et al 2004;Weston et al 2005) The goal of this paper is to evaluate the effectiveness of a modified prostate cancer focused CAI disseminated through the Black Church. The primary aims are to evaluate the effectiveness of the CAI in increasing prostate cancer knowledge and awareness, and to compare the effectiveness of the current CAI to that of an earlier version.…”
