Formulation and in Vitro Evaluation of Matrix Tablets of Metoclopramide Hydrochloride

Abstract: Objective: The purpose of present study was to formulate oral sustained release matrix tablet of metoclopramide hydrochloride and to evaluate the effect of varying concentrations of hydrophobic and hydrophilic polymers on drug release. Methods:Drug-excipients compatibility studies were carried out by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The matrix tablets were prepared by direct compression technique using Xanthan gum and ethyl cellulose alone and in combination as release retardant. Dicalcium… Show more

“…Drug compatibility study of pure quercetin, ethylcellulose, and nanosponges formulated using quercetin was carried out by potassium bromide pellets by applying pressure of 100 kg to form a pellet [25,26]. They formed pellet was scanned in the region of 4000-600 cm-1 using (FTS300 Spectrophotometer (Glab), Canton, MA).…”

“…The mechanism of drug release can be described by the phenomenon that involves the disentanglement and erosion of the polymer. The release process involves the penetration of water into dry matrix followed by hydration and swelling of the polymer, and diffusion of the drug dissolved in the matrix [14]. For all the formulations, the contribution of polymer relaxation occurs throughout the entire dissolution time period.…”

“…Carr's index (CI) Bulk density (ρb) and the tapped density (ρt) of the sample were determined with a bulk/tap density test apparatus (Elecrolab, EDT-1020). CI was calculated as 100 times; the ratio of the difference between the tapped density and bulk density to the tapped density was calculated by utilizing the following equation [18][19][20].…”
