Fracability Evaluation Method of a Fractured-Vuggy Carbonate Reservoir in the Shunbei Block

Abstract: The fracability of carbonate reservoirs is a key indicator for evaluating whether reservoirs can be effectively fractured. Taking the fractured-vuggy carbonate reservoir in the Shunbei block as an example, the microscopic characteristics and mechanical properties of this reservoir were analyzed. The test results showed that the core microstructure is relatively dense, the micropores and microfractures are developed, and the mineral composition is characterized by "high carbonate and few impurities". The compre… Show more

“…To thoroughly comprehend how pivotal reservoir characteristics affect both fracture propagation dynamics and the rate of gas production, scholars have progressively developed models aimed at evaluating the feasibility of reservoir fracturing . These models help to comprehensively demonstrate the reservoir fracturing feasibility and provide a scientific basis for the design and optimization of fracturing in actual projects, which will be discussed in the following …”

“…Fracability evaluation can be used in various underground engineering fields, such as gas storage construction, underground drainage construction, etc. [4][5][6][7]. Fracturing renovation of gas storage facilities can determine the stability and safe operating pressure boundary of the storage facility through the brittleness index.…”

“…Carbonate reservoirs have been the utmost source of oil and gas production in many regions of the world, including South America, the Middle East, and Central Asia [1,2]. Based on statistical data from IHS Markit, carbonate oil and gas resources have a proportion of about 70% of the total oil and gas resources globally, proven recoverable reserves of about 50%, and production of about 60%.…”
