Fracture strength of orthodontic mini-implants

Abstract: Objective: This study aimed at evaluating the design and dimensions of five different brands of orthodontic mini-implants, as well as their influence on torsional fracture strength. Methods: Fifty mini-implants were divided into five groups corresponding to different manufactures (DEN, RMO, CON, NEO, SIN). Twenty-five mini-implants were subjected to fracture test by torsion in the neck and the tip, through arbors attached to a Universal Mechanical Testing Machine. The other 25 mini-implants were subjected to i… Show more

“…26 The fracture torques of both tip and neck are higher than the torque required to insert mini-implants. 27 The peak fracture torque values of all mini-implants falls within the range of insertion and removal torque values; extra care and caution should be taken during the working process with implants. The failure rate of implant also depends on the clinician's experience.…”

“…Regarding stability, mini-implants are based on the primary (initial) stability system, not on secondary stability, resulting from osseointegration. Their orthodontic strength is unidirectional, and their retention is mechanical, they can be activated with immediate loading provided they have good stability or late loading [22]. virtual library.…”

“…In recent years, mini‐implants (MIs) have gained enormous popularity in the orthodontic environment and have become a reliable method to provide temporary orthodontic anchorage . The use of MIs allows the movement to be performed without side effect on the other teeth, being generally well accepted by the patients …”
