Abstract:Fragile X syndrome (FXS) is a leading cause of mental retardation, associated with a broad spectrum of involvement, ranging from mild emotional problems or learning disabilities through all levels of mental retardation. Since 1991 it has been known that the disorder is caused by a single gene on the X chromosome.
