Fragmentation is a design technique widely used in multimedia databases, because it produces substantial benefits in reducing response times, causing lower execution costs in each operation performed. Multimedia databases include data whose main characteristic is their large size, therefore, database administrators face a challenge of great importance, since they must contemplate the different qualities of non-trivial data. These databases over time undergo changes in their access patterns. Different fragmentation techniques presented in related studies show adequate workflows, however, some do not contemplate changes in access patterns. This paper aims to provide an in-depth review of the literature related to dynamic fragmentation of multimedia databases, to identify the main challenges, technologies employed, types of fragmentation used, and characteristics of the cost model. This review provides valuable information for database administrators by showing essential characteristics to perform proper fragmentation and to improve the performance of fragmentation schemes. The reduction of costs in fragmentation methods is one of the most desired main properties. To fulfill this objective, the works include cost models, covering different qualities. In this analysis, a set of characteristics used in the cost models of each work is presented to facilitate the creation of a new cost model including the most used qualities. In addition, different data sets or reference points used in the testing stage of each work analyzed are presented.

The proper storage and management of multimedia data is a topic of great interest to industry and academia. Database fragmentation plays a fundamental role as a mechanism to guarantee cost reduction and improve response time performance in distributed data management environments. Multimedia database access patterns are constantly changing; due to this, it is important that the partitioning schemes also adapt to these changes. Dynamic fragmentation techniques offer this advantage and represent a reduction of the tasks that an administrator must perform and the complete autonomy to determine when to carry out a new fragmentation based on a cost model. This work proposes a new method of dynamic horizontal fragmentation for multimedia databases, including a way to contemplate content-based queries in the creation of new fragments. The use of content-based queries is on the rise, as multimedia elements are often presented within databases, and for this reason new fragmentation strategies must include this aspect to provide better-performing schemas. The method included in this research is placed within a current web application called XAMANA. We performed some experiments to demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.

Database atau basisdata pada perkembangannya harus dikelola dengan baik, apalagi saat ini database yang didalamnya memiliki informasi data penting sebuah perusahaan yang harus dilindungi dari hilangnya data sehingga diperlukannya sistem untuk membackup data tersebut. Disisi lain ketika sebuah aplikasi yang dimiliki perusahaan memiliki dua tempat site A dan site B yang dimana saling terhubung sehingga diperlukan sistem untuk menangani ketika satu tempat mengalami gangguan aplikasi itu dapat berkerja dan ketika sistem sudah berjalan baik data pada site A dan site B memiliki data yang sama. Penelitian ini mencoba mengimplementasikan sistem replikasi data, yang dimana data site A dan site B akan dihubungkan, selanjutnya akan dilakukan replikasi data dengan sistem sinkronisasi database. Hasil dari implementasi ini berhasil dilakukan akan tetapi untuk memastikan proses replikasi data berhasil dilakukan pengujian lain seperti penghapusan data, edit data, ubah data, dari pengujian ini semua berhasil sinkron antara site A dan site B sehingga data yang dimiliki sama antar site, pengujian yang dilakukan diolah dalam bentuk persentasi keberhasilan sehingga didapat proses sinkronisasi database dengan replikasi data 100%, untuk itu replikasi ini dapat terapkan untuk proses bisnis pada perusahaan PT. XYZ dalam penanganan sistem database yang dikelola. Kata Kunci - SQL Server, Replikasi Data, Database, Data, SQL
