Framing a novel holistic energy subsystem structure for water-energy-food nexus based on existing literature (basic concepts)

Abstract: It is interesting to note that the country of Iran is essential in terms of energy production and consumption, and the economy of Iran is mainly dependent on energy revenues. Therefore, thermal and hydropower plants consume water to produce various energy carriers. Considering that Iran is suffering from water stress, the nexus of water and energy becomes very important. This paper frames a comprehensive structure for Iran's energy subsystem within the Water, Energy, and Food (WEF) nexus system. The energy sub… Show more

“…The polymer was characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, 1 H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX). 1 H NMR (Figure 1a) assured the product formation due to the presence of signals corresponding to all different types of protons in the D-DTC-OP, as proposed in its design.…”

“…The mobile phase for LC-MS consisted of water with 0.1% acetic acid (solvent A) and acetonitrile with 0.1% acetic acid (solvent B). 1 H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra were acquired using a Bruker AV III 500 MHz spectrometer, and the data were analyzed using MestReNova software (version 8.1.1). The chemical shifts in the 1 H NMR spectra are expressed in units of parts per million relative to tetramethyl silane (TMS).…”

“…Moreover, Viccaro et al (2022) [110] utilized a nexus to find suitable land in terms of efficient use of water, energy, and food for biofuel crop production. In addition, Vahabzadeh et al (2023) [111] used a nexus to figure out the suitable cropping pattern with regard to increasing WEF security. The nexus approach was also used during COVID-19 to increase food security and handle COVID-19 recovery.…”

“…Ioannou et al [28] described an analysis approach for the W-E-F nexus, allowing stakeholders to choose sustainable development goals based on their 3/19 specific interests and objectives. Masoud et al [29] framed a comprehensive structure for Iran's energy subsystem within the Water, Energy, and Food (WEF) nexus system, the energy subsystem's supply and demand side in the proposed framework are formulated using data and physic-based equations.…”
