In inertial fusion energy (IFE) research, a considerable attention has recently been focused on the issue of large target fabrication for MJ-class laser facilities. The ignition and high-gain target designs require a condensed uniform layer of hydrogen fuel on the inside of a spherical shell. In this report, we discuss the current status and further trends in the area of developing the layering techniques intended to produce ignition, and layering techniques proposed to high repetition rate and mass production of IFE targets.

Характерная особенность текущего этапа в развитии управляемого инерциального термоядерного синтеза (ИТС) -создание научной и технологической базы для высокочастотной подачи криогенного водородного топлива в фокус мощной лазерной установки или реактора ИТС. Основные проблемы здесь связаны с разработкой технологии массового производства топливных мишеней и необходимостью их инжекции в камеру реактора с частотой 1-10 Гц. В обзоре дан сравнительный анализ совре-менного состояния работ в мире в этой области. Представлены результаты большого цикла экспериментальных и теоретиче-ских исследований, продемонстрировавших, что в России создан опережающий научно-технологический задел для построения первой в мире опытной установки (так называемой «Фабрики мишеней») для непрерывного пополнения криогенным водород-ным топливом зоны термоядерного горения реактора ИТС.Ключевые слова: инерциальный термоядерный синтез (ИТС), водородное топливо, криогенная мишень, ультрадисперсный слой топлива. CRYOGENIC HYDROGEN FUEL FOR CONTROLLED INERTIAL CONFINEMENT FUSION (REVIEW OF WORLD RESULTS)I.V. One of the major tasks in controlled inertial confinement fusion (ICF) now is the development of scientific, engineering and technological basis for mass production of cryogenic hydrogen fuel encapsulated in ICF targets. To demonstrate ICF as a power source, the targets must be accurately delivered to the focus of a power laser facility or ICF reactor at a rate of 1-10 Hz. In this paper, a comparative analysis of state-of-the-art in the world in the field of target fabrication and transport in the ICF systems is presented. The paper also summarizes the results of theoretical and experimental efforts in Russia and describes a unique free-standing (FST) fabrication technology, which can serve as a basis for ICF reactor fueling. Now there is an advanced scientific and technological groundwork for designing and building of the world's first target FST factory for a pilot ICF-plant with continuous delivery of the cryogenic hydrogen fuel into the ICF burn area.Key words: inertial confinement fusion (ICF), hydrogen fuel, cryogenic target, ultrafine fuel layer. ВВЕДЕНИЕНа сегодняшний день использование энергии инерциального термоядерного синтеза (ИТС) явля-ется одной из приоритетных задач в рамках концепции устойчивого развития и перехода к альтерна-тивным источникам энергии в базовой энергетике страны. Поэтому в современных исследованиях ак-туальной проблемой становится разработка энергетической станции на основе ИТС, которая могла бы обеспечить получение энергии за счёт реакций синтеза изотопов водорода -дейтерия и трития. Abstract. The target supply system is a necessary requirement for fueling a future energy source (reactor) with a high rep-rate: 0.1-10 Hz. At the Lebedev Physical Institute (LPI), significant progress has been made in the technology based on rapid fuel layering inside moving free-standing targets that is referred to as FST (Free-Standing Targets) layering method. This allows creating a continuously or repeatable operating FST supply system, the development of which at LPI dates back to 1980s. Therefore, the LPI is in the position to propose the use of FST technologies for HiPER facility operation (conceptual design and prototype realization). Here we report on our most significant results on the development of a specialized layering module prototype for repeatable formation of HiPER free-standing cryogenic targets.
