From Atoms to Bits: Consequences of the Emerging Digital Divide in India

Abstract: A B ST R AC T This paper focuses on the impact of ICTs, the Internet, and the Web on the life and work of people and mentions new services available through the convergence of computer and communication technologies. Also discussed are ''digital determinism'' in general and India's growing ''digital divide'' in particular. The paper discusses the promises and perils of the digital revolution. Comments are made on the library and information infrastructure, superstructure, and digitization initiatives in India.… Show more
