From luddite to luminary: Implementing technology in healthcare education

Abstract

No one becomes a doctor because they love staring at a computer.Yet, it is how many of us spend a significant portion of our time. 1 For most, fulfilment in medicine comes from patient interactions, driving innovation through research, and training the next generation of physicians. Technology is viewed by some as a 'dehumanizing force', serving as a substitute for human interaction. 2 Therefore, it is not surprising that using virtual patients to train physicians clinically may seem contradictory to the core values of our profession.
