From Polyacrylonitrile, Its Solutions, and Filaments to Carbon Fibers: I. Phase State and Rheology of Basic Polymers and Their Solutions

Abstract: The phase state and rheological properties of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) solutions of a series of acrylonitrilebased copolymers (PAN), which were obtained by suspension polymerization and synthesized in supercritical CO 2 , have been studied. For PAN-DMSO (plus water) solutions, a bimodal amorphous phase equilibrium takes place at~78°C. Comparison of the rheological behavior of homo-and copolymer solutions has shown that the presence of carboxylate ion(s) in the macromolecular chain leads to supramolecular stru… Show more

“…It can be seen from Fig. 4 that system viscosities stay quite low when MWCNTs are used-the same as already observed for stable nanotubes dispersions in polyacrylonitrile solutions [40] and bitumen [41]. In general, an exponential growth of the system viscosity is observed with an increase in nanofiller volume content u (Fig.…”

“…A detailed rheological analysis of basic PAN solutions was presented in . For this part of the work, we chose three samples with chemical compositions that had been examined before, namely samples containing sodium itaconate (SI_PAN), acrylic acid (AN114), and methyl itaconate (AN91).…”

“…Part 1 of this work was devoted to the detailed characterization and properties of different copolymer solutions . However, we would like to mention that as a general rule we made use of rather standard copolymers with only one original aspect: all copolymers were synthesized in a supercritical CO 2 medium.…”
