Fuel Saving on Diesel Genset using PV/Battery Spike Cutting in Remote Area Microgrid

Abstract: Abstract. Diesel Generator set was found to be a favorite power generator in a remote area. In this area, diesel genset usually consumes a significant amount of diesel fuel with higher fuel price than an urban area. Diesel Generator capacity conventionally prepared twice bigger or more than the existing load to prevent any load spike from designated equipment. This work implements an Energy Management System to cut the spike with the support from battery storage unit and photovoltaic module. Once the Energy Ma… Show more

“…For example, the application of solar power plants requires a solar radiation time series and meteorological variables as key elements for modeling the energy production of solar power plants. At present, using energy from renewable resources is a key factor in improving and adding benefits to society because it is sustainable [1], [2]. One such RES is solar energy, which is secure, clean, and available on earth throughout the year.…”

“…It is also because data on PV readiness to comply with DG are more wellfounded [58] [59]. Even though the PV-DG microgrid has been used in previous research [60][61] [62], the previous more focused on component optimization but did not thoroughly analyze the deterioration factor.…”

“…Technical design is the main cause of microgrid deterioration. This begins with locally inappropriate microgrid design 6) , followed by poor component selection 7) , improper daily operations -mostly due to a lack of qualified operators 8) , and worn-out components resulting from missed maintenance schedules, often due to issues in project funding disbursement.…”
