Full-rate full-diversity space-frequency codes with optimum coding advantage

Abstract: Abstract-In this paper, a general space-frequency (SF) block code structure is proposed that can guarantee full-rate (one channel symbol per subcarrier) and full-diversity transmission in multiple-input multiple-output-orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems. The proposed method can be used to construct SF codes for an arbitrary number of transmit antennas, any memoryless modulation and arbitrary power-delay profiles. Moreover, assuming that the power-delay profile is known at the transm… Show more

“…For a better description of this modulation technique, it is useful to decompose the matrix X m = diag{X m } into its even and odd components using the following notation X e m , X o m . “…It also requires knowledge of statistical distribution of the noise, which determines the form of metric for optimum demodulation of the received signal. Maximum likelihood (ML) decoding [18,19] finds the codeword C that solves the following minimization problem C argmin r C ′ H F (21) Where . H is a Hermition operator which means transpose and then conjugate of a matrix.…”

“…The combination of ST, SF or STF codes and multiplexing access techniques in the MIMO systems has received much attention in the last years. In the MIMO-OFDM system, SF and STF codings have been employed for providing high data rates and/or reliability through the system diversities available [25,28,32,34,35,36,37,38,39]. For the same purpose, the MIMO-CDMA and MIMO-SDMA systems have exploited the ST diversities [40,41,42,17,43,12,44].…”
