Full-vector modeling of thermally-driven gain competition in Yb-doped reduced symmetry photonic-crystal fiber

Abstract: A new model to study gain competition in high-power fiber amplifiers, which accounts for the full-vector nature of the propagating modes and thermal effects on core overlap, is applied to simulate the performance of an active rod-type fiber under severe heat load. Model tests on a Yb-doped large-pitch reduced symmetry photonic-crystal fiber show a successful analysis of gain competition
