Abstract:Several genome-wide association studies have associated CACNA1C variants with psychiatric disorders. The molecular mechanisms involved are poorly understood. Taking advantage of the zebrafish larva as a model, we investigated how two different mutations in cacna1c – sa10930 (nonsense mutation) and sa15296 (splice site mutation), affect neuronal function. We characterized changes in cacna1c mRNA, neurotransmitter levels and behaviour, as well as whole-brain activity using single electrode local field potential … Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
