Functional characterisation of single nucleotide variants of the psychiatric risk gene cacna1c in the zebrafish

Abstract: Several genome-wide association studies have associated CACNA1C variants with psychiatric disorders. The molecular mechanisms involved are poorly understood. Taking advantage of the zebrafish larva as a model, we investigated how two different mutations in cacna1c – sa10930 (nonsense mutation) and sa15296 (splice site mutation), affect neuronal function.
