Functional Characterization of An Allene Oxide Synthase Involved in Biosynthesis of Jasmonic Acid and Its Influence on Metabolite Profiles and Ethylene Formation in Tea (Camellia sinensis) Flowers

Abstract: Jasmonic acid (JA) is reportedly involved in the interaction between insects and the vegetative parts of horticultural crops; less attention has, however, been paid to its involvement in the interaction between insects and the floral parts of horticultural crops. Previously, we investigated the allene oxide synthase 2 (AOS2) gene that was found to be the only JA synthesis gene upregulated in tea (Camellia sinensis) flowers exposed to insect (Thrips hawaiiensis (Morgan)) attacks. In our present study, transient… Show more

“…It was known that phytohormones (including JA, SA and ABA) are important in plant defences against herbivore attack 4, 68, 69 . To investigate whether these phytohormones are involved in the induction of OsHPL2 expression, we tested the expression levels of OsHPL2 at 1, 3, 6, 12 and 24 h after treatment.…”

“…Over-expression of the flax AOS gene in potato led to about 8- to 12-fold increase in endogenous JA [ 33 ]. With CsAOS2 over-expression in tobacco, higher JA content was detected at 1 h after mechanical damage [ 34 ]. Transgenic rice with OsAOS2 exhibited abundant OsAOS2 transcripts and a higher endogenous JA level after pathogen infection [ 26 ].…”
