Functional results 5 years after successful percutaneous mitral commissurotomy in a series of 528 patients and analysis of predictive factors

Abstract: Good functional results were observed 5 years after successful percutaneous mitral commissurotomy in a large series of varied patients. The analysis of predictive factors may provide useful indications for follow-up results in patients undergoing this technique.

“…Echocardiography demonstrated a mean left ventricular ejection fraction of 0.58±0.04 and a mean left atrial diameter (LAD) of 47±7 mm. The mean mitral valve area (MVA) was 1.11±0.19 cm, 2 and there was no or grade I mitral regurgitation (MR), determined by left ventriculography before the procedure (Table 2). [18][19][20][21] …”

“…Although there are numerous predictors of late events following the procedure -age, functional class IV, previous surgical commissurotomy, moderate to severe mitral deficit, echo score > 8, severe mitral deficit following dilatation and increased pressure in the pulmonary artery after dilatation, small valve area after the procedure 2 ), non-sinus rhythm, valve calcification on fluoroscopy, increased LA pressure, increased transvalvular gradient [9][10][11][12][13][14][15] ; there are no details in the literature about changes of P wave in the electrocardiogram performed after the mitral valvuloplasty in patients with mitral stenosis and left atrial enlargement, and there is even less understanding about the meaning of these changes at late follow-up after the percutaneous intervention.…”
