Functional tests in patients with ischemic heart disease

Abstract: Lately, easier and shorter tests have been used in the functional evaluation of cardiac patients. Among these, walking speed (WS) and Timed Up and Go (TUG) tests are associated with all-cause mortality, mainly cardiovascular and the rate of re-hospitalization, especially in the elderly population. We prospectively analyzed a group of 38 patients admitted to the Cardiology Clinic from Elias Hospital, Romania, with chronic coronary syndrome (CCS) (n=22) and STEMI (n=16). We assessed the patients immediately afte… Show more

“…These tests are key components of health assessment in the elderly, which are susceptible to frailty and functional decline [4] , but have also been used in the diagnosis of functional loss of younger patients as well [5] . The association between functional status and adverse outcomes has been previously observed in stable coronary artery disease [6] , after myocardial heart infarction [7] , and heart failure [2] . In open chest heart surgery (OHS), risk scores are designed to predict mortality, in which the European System for Cardiac Operative Risk Evaluation (Euroscore II) is one of the most employed worldwide [8] .…”

“…Gait is not only one of the basic forms of rehabilitation for these patients but also has a significant predictive value. The distance covered and the gait velocity in the walking test by patients with cardiovascular diseases are important indicators of their death risk [1][2][3][4].…”
