Résumé -Réduction de modèles cinétiques basée sur les événements constitutifs à l'aide d'un regroupement rigoureux : application au reformage catalytique -La modélisation des procédés de raffinage utilisant des catalyseurs bifonctionnels métal-acide fait intervenir un nombre exponentiellement croissant d'espèces et de réactions qui peut rapidement dépasser plusieurs milliers pour des charges industrielles complexes. Lors de la réalisation d'un modèle de procédé, l'utilisation de modèles cinétiques de regroupement a priori par familles chimiques ne satisfait plus les besoins actuels de simulation détail-lée, de prédictivité et d'extrapolabilité. À cause du grand nombre d'étapes élémentaires impliquées dans la catalyse bifonctionnelle, il est déraisonnable de vouloir construire à la main un réseau cinétique détaillé d'une telle ampleur. La génération informatique du réseau réactionnel à partir de règles simples propose une solution élégante dans un tel cas. Malgré cela, l'établissement des équations cinétiques et leur résolu-tion reste difficile, essentiellement à cause du manque de détail analytique demandé par un modèle détaillé. Néanmoins, pour plusieurs procédés de raffinage, des hypothèses raisonnables concernant les équilibres entre espèces permettent d'effectuer un regroupement a posteriori des espèces, réduisant de cette manière la taille du réseau réactionnel tout en maintenant un réseau cinétique entre familles chimiques qui est strictement équivalent au réseau détaillé. Nous présentons ici les outils de génération de réseau et la méthode de regroupement a posteriori associés à la méthode de modélisation cinétique par événements constitutifs. Cette approche de regroupement a posteriori est illustrée et appliquée à la modélisation cinétique des réactions de reformage catalytique. Abstract

A n arti®cial neural network (ANN) model for determining the steady-state behaviour of an industrial Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) unit is presented in this paper. Industrial data from a Greek petroleum re®nery were used to develop, train and check the model. FCC is one of the most important oil re®nery processes. Due to its complexity the modelling of the FCC poses a great challenge. The proposed model is capable of predicting the volume percent of conversion based on six input variables. This work is focused on determining the optimum architecture of the ANN, in order to gain good generalization properties. The results show that the ANN is able to accurately predict the measured data. The prediction errors in both training and validation data sets are almost the same, indicating the capabilities of the model to accurately generalize when presented with unseen data. The neural model developed is also compared to an existing non-linear statistical model. The comparison shows that the neural model is superior to the statistical model.

-In this paper, kinetic modeling techniques for complex chemical processes are reviewed. After a brief historical overview of chemical kinetics, an overview is given of the theoretical background of kinetic modeling of elementary steps and of multistep reactions. Classic lumping techniques are introduced and analyzed. Two examples of lumped kinetic models (atmospheric gasoil hydrotreating and residue hydroprocessing) developed at IFP Energies nouvelles (IFPEN) are presented. The largest part of this review describes advanced kinetic modeling strategies, in which the molecular detail is retained, i.e. the reactions are represented between molecules or even subdivided into elementary steps. To be able to retain this molecular level throughout the kinetic model and the reactor simulations, several hurdles have to be cleared first: (i) the feedstock needs to be described in terms of molecules, (ii) large reaction networks need to be automatically generated, and (iii) a large number of rate equations with their rate parameters need to be derived. For these three obstacles, molecular reconstruction techniques, deterministic or stochastic network generation programs, and single-event micro-kinetics and/or linear free energy relationships have been applied at IFPEN, as illustrated by several examples of kinetic models for industrial refining processes.Résumé -Une revue de méthodes de modélisation cinétique pour des procédés complexesDans cet article, les techniques de modélisation cinétique des processus chimiques complexes sont examinées. Après un bref aperçu historique de la cinétique chimique, un aperçu des bases théoriques de la modélisation cinétique d'étapes élémentaires et de réactions globales est présenté. Les techniques classiques de regroupement (lumping) sont ensuite présentées et analysées. Deux exemples de modèles cinétiques regroupés (pour l'hydrotraitement de gazole atmosphérique et pour l'hydrotraitement de résidus) développés à IFP Energies nouvelles (IFPEN) sont présentés. La plus grande partie de cette revue décrit des stratégies avancées de modélisation cinétique, dans lesquelles le détail moléculaire est retenu : les réactions entre les molécules sont représentées ou même subdivisées en étapes élémentaires. Pour être en mesure de conserver ce niveau moléculaire à la fois dans le modèle cinétique et dans les simulations de réacteurs, plusieurs obstacles doivent d'abord être éliminés : (i) la charge doit être décrite en termes de molécules, (ii) les grands réseaux réactionnels doivent être générés automatiquement et (iii) un grand nombre d'équations de vitesse avec leurs paramètres de vitesse doit être dérivé.
