Fuzzy Clustering Chaotic-Based Differential Evolution for Resource Leveling in Construction Projects

Abstract: Project scheduling is an important part of project planning in many management companies. Resource leveling problem describes the process of reducing the fluctuations in resource usage over the project duration. The goal of resource leveling is to minimize the incremental demands that cause fluctuations of resources, and thus avoid undesirable cyclic hiring and firing during project execution. In this research, a novel optimization model, named as Fuzzy Clustering Chaotic-based Differential Evolution for sol… Show more

“…Moreover, Xu et al (2015) presented a bi-level model with several decision makers for a project scheduling problem in a random fuzzy environment, where both interests of the project owner (maximization of benefit and minimization of project completion time) and contractor (minimization of costs) were considered. Cheng et al (2016) introduced a new optimization model with the title of Fuzzy Clustering Chaotic-based Differential Evolution (FCDE) for solving Resource Leveling (FCDE-RL), where FCDE was developed by integration of differential evolution with c-mean fuzzy clustering and chaos techniques for solving complex optimization problems. Furthermore, Tran et al (2016) …”

“…In CPM scheduling, resource smoothing algorithms adjust scheduling activities that do not belong to the critical path within the constraints of their float (Cheng et al 2014). Thus, resource smoothing in CPM achieves similar results as LBMS for non-critical tasks.…”

“…Hariga and El-Sayegh (2011) examined the resource levelling problem with the objective of minimizing the total costs of the variations in resource usage and the associated costs of splitting preemptive activities. Cheng et al (2017) introduced a method based on fuzzy clustering for solving resource levelling problems in construction projects. Damci and Polat (2014) reviewed the impact of different objective functions of resource levelling on resource usage.…”
