Abstract:The farnesoid X‐receptor (FXR), a nuclear receptor, is a ligand‐regulated transcription factor that regulates bile acid, lipid, and glucose metabolism. FXR consists of a ligand‐binding domain (LBD), that bind small lipophilic ligands, and a DNA binding domain (DBD) that targets specific areas of DNA called FXR response elements (FXRE). When ligands bind to the LBD, allosteric structural changes occur in the DBD and affect the DNA binding preferences. Once bound to FXREs, ligand‐bound FXR regulates the transcri… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
