Abstract: Background: Galectin-3 (Gal-3) is a unique glycoprotein expressed in different tissues with several biological functions. Vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) is a cell adhesion molecule, expressed from vascular endothelium, and is implicated in the process of tissue angiogenesis.
