The 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase gene (MTHFR) A1298C polymorphic variant is a candidate to explain the individual differences in trainability and response to exercise training. Therefore, the aim of the study was to verify whether the A1298C polymorphism influenced the aerobic and anaerobic performance as well as body and mass composition in young Polish women following low-high impact aerobic exercise training. Two hundred and one women aged 21 ± 1 years (range 19–24) were included in the study. All of them completed a 12-week exercise training program and were measured for selected somatic features, aerobic capacity and cardiorespiratory fitness indices as well as peak anaerobic power and anaerobic capacity, before and after the intervention. A mixed 2 x 2 ANOVA for 20 dependent variables grouped in three categories was conducted. No significant interaction of the genotype with training for body mass and body composition variables was observed. Although, there were three significant genotype x training interactions for maximal oxygen uptake variables, regardless of body mass i.e.: for VO2max (p < 0.05), HRmax (p < 0.0001) and HRAT/HRmax (p < 0.0001). Significantly greater improvement in VO2max was gained by the CC+AC group compared to the AA genotype group. The present results support the hypothesis that individual differences in trainability are at least in part determined by the genetic component and MTHFR A1298C seems to be one of the many polymorphisms involved.

The analysis of technical-tactical performance indicators is an excellent tool for coaches, because it provides objective information on the actions of players and teams. The aim of this investigation was to study the performance indicators for the last continental basketball championships. Five continental championships played in 2015 were analysed for a total of 213 matches. The variables analysed were: ball possessions, point difference, points scored, one, two and three point throws attempted and scored, total and defensive and offensive rebounds, assists, steals, turnovers, blocks for and against, fouls committed and received, and evaluation. A descriptive analysis and performance profiles were carried out to characterise the sample. A one-way ANOVA and Bonferroni correction were used to identify the differences among championships. A discriminant analysis was performed to identify the performance indicators best characterising each analysed championship. The results show that there are differences among all the championships and all the performance indicators, except in three point throws scored and blocks. A specific play profile has been identified for each championship. The greatest performance profile differences were found between the Eurobasket and the Afrobasket championships, while the championships with the most similar performance indicator profiles were FIBA America and Asia Cup. These findings are useful for coaches when preparing the different possible scenarios depending on the championship and their respective opponent.Key Words: performance analysis, competition analysis, technical-tactical performance indicators, continental championships, basketball. El objetivo de esta investigación fue estudiar los indicadores de rendimiento en los últimos Campeonatos Continentales de Baloncesto. Se analizaron los 5 campeonatos continentales del año 2015, un total de 231 partidos. Las variables analizadas fueron: posesiones de balón, diferencia de puntos, puntos anotados, lanzamientos de uno, dos y tres puntos anotados y lanzados, rebotes totales, defensivos y ofensivos, asistencias, robos, pérdidas, tapones a favor y en contra, faltas cometidas y recibidas, y valoración. Se llevaron a cabo un análisis descriptivo y de perfiles de rendimiento para caracterizar la muestra. La ANOVA de un factor con la corrección de Bonferroni se utilizó para identificar las diferencias entre campeonatos. Fueron analizados 19 indicadores estadísticos, recogidos en los 110 partidos de la primera fase de la Temporada Regular y en los 28 partidos de los Playoffs de la Liga Portuguesa de Basquetebol (LPB), de la temporada 2015/2016, con el objetivo de determinar cuáles son los indicadores del juego que mejor predicen el éxito de los equipos (definido por el porcentaje de éxito). El análisis de la regresión múltiple, mostró que la media de rebotes defensivos por partido y la media de lanzamientos de 2 puntos anotados por partido, fueron los mejores predictores del éxito de los equipos en la primera fase de la temporada regular, explicando 96,8% de la varianza del porcentaje de éxito. En los partidos de Playoff, los resultados mostraron que la media de rebotes defensivos por partido fue el único predictor del éxito de los equipos en esta fase de la competición, explicando un total de 53,5% de la varianza del porcentaje de éxito. Los resultados de estudio muestran que el éxito en las diferentes fases de la LPB está más asociado a la dimensión defensiva del juego.
