“…Keeping the driver "in the loop" is therefore one of the main tasks for driving behavior research. Gamification can be a great enabler in this area (Ali et al, 2016). A novel research approach would be to equip simulated automated vehicles with certain behaviors, such as "eco-driver" or "sporty driver".…”

“…VR driving simulations can be used to train young or novice drivers and help them understand their mistakes or point out some bad driving habits they need to adjust. Within a simulation, drivers can be placed in a virtual vehicle within an environment resembling a cityscape, with their behaviors and actions observed and recorded to later analyze for any issues or mistakes or to see if the drivers made the correct decisions in a given scenario [ 16 ]. After conducting the simulation, drivers can be informed of their mistakes and receive feedback about how to improve their behaviors in an actual driving situation.…”

“…The most common use of driving simulation focused on the driver specifically are studies about driver training. Driving simulators can help drivers to enhance their ability and mitigate occurrence of accidents in the real world by presenting risky scenarios as in [85] and [86], typical common situations as in [87] and [88], or using both as shown in [89].…”
