Gas phase sensors for bases using rhodamine B in nafion films

Abstract: A sensor and dosimeter specific to inorganic and organic amine bases composed of Rhodamine B dissolved in Nafion is prepared and evaluated. UV-vis, emission, and IR spectroscopies are used to monitor the presence of a variety of analytes, including aliphatic and aromatic amines. The Rhodamine B serves as a visual indicator of the presence of an analyte by turning from brown to pink upon exposure to aliphatic amines after sufficient exposure, thus acting as a visual monitor. The Rhodamine B also acts as a fluor… Show more

“…The adsorption of L on the Naon coated MWCNTs surface was supported by the IR spectra of L and the L/MWCNTs/Naon nanocomposite. The IR spectrum of pure Naon reported earlier 33 showed peaks between 2500 and 3700 cm À1 which were attributed to water and sulfonic acid present in the Naon pores. The peak observed at 1634 cm À1 was assigned to the -OH bending vibration whereas the peaks at 1452 cm À1 and 1057 cm À1 were assigned to the C-F stretching and ether groups present in Naon.…”

“…The crude MWCNTs were puried and treated to acquire a negative charge using a method reported earlier with some modications. 33 Naon solution (1 mL, 1.1%) was prepared by diluting it with triple distilled water followed by the dispersion of 0.5 mg of puried MWCNTs in 50 mL Naon solution and was then ultrasonicated for half an hour to make a homogeneous solution of MWCNTs/Naon. This solution (5 mL) was then drop cast on a cleaned GCE and was allowed to air dry for 1 hour.…”

“…The role of both gelatin and Ce dopant on the structure of ZrO 2 nanopowders as well as the correlation between the structure and properties of the prepared samples has been established. Taking into account the nowadays tendency in sensor development to find new materials and sensor platforms [26], Rhodamine B dye has been used as fluorescent detector in order to establish the possibility of application of the prepared materials in the sensors domain.…”
