Gastric Hyperplastic Polyp Occurring at the Resection Site of Gastric Adenoma

Abstract: Endoscopic mucosal resection was carried out in a 70-year-old man with a gastric adenoma. Endoscopy 1 year later revealed a subpedunculated polyp about 1 cm in diameter at the resection site. Pathological examination of the resected specimen showed hyperplasia of the regenerative epithelium. The mechanism of occurrence of hyperplastic polyp at the resection site is discussed.

“…Corticosteroids also inhibit the transcription of a broad spectrum of genes including those encoding monocyte or T cell‐derived cytokines and several hemopoietic growth factors 9 . Therefore, in the present case, immunosuppressive therapy may have disturbed the natural balance of growth factors and cytokines required for ulcer healing, which led to the development of a larger hyperplastic polyp than was previously reported 3 . A recent report by Amaro et al.…”

“…Our case occurred at the ESD resection site, and we hypothesized that it may have occurred during the healing process of an ulcer created therein. In some case reports, there are reports of hyperplastic polyps occurring at the endoscopic resection site [ 10 ]. However, GCT-ST differs macroscopically from hyperplastic polyps in its smooth surface and multinodular polypoid mass.…”
